What are the two examples of data communication? These machines must be qualified of transferring and receiving data over a transmission medium. This article discusses the two examples of data communication.

What Are The Two Examples of Data Communication?

The first is a data communication system and the second is a data communications network.

Data Communication System

It is a system, made up of two or more computers and other devices, which communicate with each other over a communication medium. The following are the three examples of data communication systems:

  • Stand-Alone Network Example: in this example, each computer is connected directly to the other computer through a cable or pair of wires. This example of a data communication system is also known as daisy chain topology.
  • Peer-to-Peer Network Example: in this example, each computer is to a hub that is to the other computers through cables.
  • Client/Server Network Example: in this example, each computer is to a server through a Local Area Network (LAN).

Data Communications Network

It is a system, made up of multiple networks. Also, other devices, communicate with each other over a long distance using communication devices known as routers.

The following are the two examples of data communication networks:

  • Wide Area Network Example: in this example, one or more data communications systems are to the public telephone network (PSTN). The PSTN is to the other data communications systems through a telephone line.
  • Metropolitan Area Network Example: in this example, one or more data communications systems are through a high-speed network.

Difference Between Data Communications System And Data Communications Network?

The main difference between a Data communications system and Data communications network is that:

  • Data Communications System = Two or more computers and other devices which communicate with each other over a communication medium.
  • Data Communications Network = One or more data communications systems that communicate with each other using a communication device known as a router.

What is Data Communications?

Data communication is the transfer of data between two or more computers and other devices connected to a communication medium. Also, the communication medium is either a cable or a pair of wires. Therefore, the devices connected to this medium are nodes.

Benefits

There are many benefits of data communication systems and data communications networks. Some of these benefits are as follows:

The transfer of data between two or more computers. Also, other devices in a network are much faster than the transfer of data between two or more computers connected directly by using a cable or a pair of wires.

The cost of a data communication system is less than the cost of a data communications network. Also, the transfer of data and voice data at the same time, from one computer or device to another computer or device, is possible with a data communication system and not with a data communications network.

The distance between two computers and devices connected through a cable or wire is short, but the distance between two computers that are through a router is long.

Conclusion

The two examples of data communications are a data communication system and a data communications network.
